Now, I think America’s two party system is greatly flawed. It gives very little room for difference of opinion within parties. Because of this, progress is very slow. I feel you. And mental health services do not get the necessary financial support it needs from the government. People with mental health issues are also looked down upon by society so they’re are less likely to seek out help even if they do have insurance that would pay for it.
BUT, my friend, I can tell that you know jack shit about mental health, psychology or sociology so your incorrect opinion is uninformed. Fortunately for you, my opinions are backed by facts and information gathered in my 6 years at university that I spent getting my degree in psychology
Did you know that less than 1% of mass shootings are carried out by a person who is seriously mentally ill? Did you know that the seriously mentally ill are far more likely to take their own lives than kill some else? Did you know that when looking at violent crimes as a whole, seriously mentally ill people only make up about 3% of those crimes? Did you know that most mass shooting perpetrators have not been involuntarily hospitalized so gun laws restricting access to the mentally ill would only have prevented 3% of all mass shootings yearly. I still think it’s a good idea because every life is meaningful but realistically access to guns is the problem not mental illness.

Earlier you made the mistake of mentioning cars. Let’s focus on that. In the US you start out with a learners permit where you can only drive with parent or adult after taking segment 1 drivers education. Then, 6 months to 2 years later depending on the state, you can get a restricted license where you can drive at certain hours, with certain people in the car, with possibly more restrictions, and only after taking segment two drivers education. Finally, after 6 months to two years depending on the state, you can finally get your license! Well that is if you pass both the written and road test. But wait! In order to drive you need a car, whether you lease or buy that car it will need to be registered and insured! Now let’s say you have an issue that makes driving difficult for you like poor eye sight. If you’re caught driving without corrective lenses then you’re ticketed and your insurance company is notified and your monthly premium goes up. Also, your insurance premium depends on you as a person. Since insuring men is more risky than insuring women, they pay a higher premium. Let’s take this one step further. In some states you can get arrested for drunk driving by having your keys on you while being within eyesight of your car. That’s enough to prove intent and in some states you will face a minimum of one day in jail and a suspended license for a year. Get enough tickets and you loose your license.

Cars are meant to take you from point A to point B. Guns are meant to kill.

When people like me take about sensible gun laws or gun regulation, we mean we want guns to be regulated as strictly if not more strictly than a car!
